About the President:
Dr. Carlo J De Luca is a Biomedical Engineer. He has held academic appointments at Queen’s University in Canada, MIT, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University. At BU, he is the founding Director of the NeuroMuscular Research Center and has served as Dean of the College of Engineering. He has trained 31 M.S. and Ph.D. students and 40 scientists from 15 countries. He has co-authored a book, Muscles Alive, 103 peer-reviewed articles; 20 book chapters; over 240 abstracts; holds 13 patents, and has given over 120 invited presentations. He has served on the editorial board of seven scientific journals and has been a reviewer for over two dozen scientific journals. During the past 31 years, he has received uninterrupted research awards totaling over $35 million. He has served on the grant review boards of NIH, NIOSH, VA; and has served as a reviewer for NSF, PVA, DoD. He has been a consultant to several corporations as well as U.S. and foreign government agencies.
Dr. De Luca is a member of 13 professional societies, and has held various offices in those societies. He has been the subject of several biographical references including Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who America. He has received several honors and awards from scientific societies and philanthropic organizations. In 1993, he founded Delsys Inc. and has continued to serve as its president and CEO. In 1997, he founded Altec Inc. In 2002, he was appointed to the National Advisory Council for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering of the National Institutes of Health. (04.06)
