Dr. Maria Vinti, Senior Clinical Research Manager, Mindmaze, will present her work on: “From the Real to the Virtual: Why and How?”

Talk Summary

Surface EMG recordings and their analysis provide a powerful neurophysiological technique to identify health and pathological status of the motor system and quantify the effectiveness of treatment strategies. In this presentation I will share with you my experience as a clinician and researcher. The focus will be on EMG contribution and its relevance to clinical problems, especially when EMG is combined with virtual reality and gaming technologies. The potential of these combined technologies for the development of new devices, clinical applications and techniques for more efficient and personalized treatment of motor disorders will be discussed from my perspective as a researcher, clinician, and engineer in the private and public sectors.

About Dr. Maria Vinti

Dr. Maria VintiDr. Vinti received her PhD in 2012 in Bioengineering and Health from École Doctorale Sciences des Métiers de l’Ingénieur (SMI) in Paris France where she completed her dissertation [Biomechanics and Physiological Characterization of Spastic Co-contraction] in the Laboratory of Biomechanics (LBM). She did her post-doctoral training at the Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System (LISIN), Politecnico di Torino. Italy. She has two master’s degrees; one in Neurology from University Aix Marseille and another in Motor Control University of Nanterre. Her undergraduate degree and training was as a physiotherapist working in Italy and France. Since her post-doctoral training she has worked as a Research Engineer at BRAIN e-NOVATION Laboratory at the Brain & Spinal Cord Institute in Paris where she designed and studied the efficacy of gaming and virtual reality platforms for rehabilitation. More recently she has served as the Senior Clinical Research Manager (USA) for MindMaze, a neurotechnology company based in Switzerland.
