Dr. Katherine Boyer

Dr. Boyer is currently an Assistant Professor and co-director of the Biomechanics Lab in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is also the director of the Memorial Gait Analysis Clinic a new joint venture between the UMass Amherst Department of Kinesiology and the UMass Medical School Department of Orthopedics and the co-director of the multi-user Human Motion Lab within the Institute of Applied Life Sciences at UMass-Amherst. The focus of her groups research is on the mechanisms underlying loss of normal joint and whole body function associated with aging, musculoskeletal pain and joint pathology. A key component of this work is the development and implementation of novel approaches to analyze human movement including higher-order statistical methods and non-linear approaches. Dr. Boyer is a Canadian Expat, she received a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University (Kingston, Ont) and a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary. She worked as a Post-doctoral fellow and then as a Research Associate at Stanford University before joining the faculty at UMass Amherst in 2012.
